Depending upon the location of mutations, the impact or consequences could be morphological or physiological and it might be visible or invisible, respectively (Temko, Tomlinson, Severini, Schuster-Böckler & Graham, 2018).

If mutations are occurring in the somatic cells, they will not be passed on to the next generation. Therefore, in order for mutation to affect organisms’ descendants, it would be essential that the mutations must occur in the germ cells such as sperms and ovum.
