Curtis, Chapter 9:
The main theme expres
sed in Chapter 9 revolves around change from old architecture to the new universalist architecture. The main styles of early architecture include Cubism that relied on abstract art as a backdrop to shaping monuments. This type of architecture sought to fix space cells together. The architectural style of each architect was much designed to their own beliefs, understandings and tastes. Pablo Piccaso and Georges Barque along with Le Corbusier were some prominent architect whose ideas were shaped by Cubism.
Curtis Chapter 10:
Le Corbusier can be said to be the father of International style as his style was a combination of imagination, philosophy, feelings and tradition. His life accomplishment includes setting up an entire architectural system that included structural, logical and intuitive rules, type-forms and which allowed various combinations and variations. The ‘Five Points of a new architecture’ in 1926 formed the basis of Le Corbusiers architectural designs
Curtis, Chapter 12:
Architecture in Russia during the 1920s is closely linked to the social ideals of the time. The main issue faced by the architects of the time was to express not what was but what should be the values and attitudes after the Revolution.
