Introduction
    America has gone through enormous changes—mostly, the transitional ones where social and economical growth is often criticized as one sided—and these change
s have shaped what people view it today. For American poets, this evolution of American societies and its economical strength has remained a tempting subject. Langston Hughes is one of the poets who have elaborated the theme of negativity, the dark side of growth which American people could view in the 1930s. Let American be America Again is an attempt to showcase that other side of the picture to common readers. Hughes attempts to encapsulate the misery and pain of the poor people who simply do not enjoy the freedom granted to them because of the nexus created around them of affluent and powerful people. The following is an analysis of the rhetorical structure of the poem covering fugitive and other forms of rhetorical devices used by the poet.
Rhetorical Structure of the Poem
    At first, it is significant to note here that Hughes addresses an abstract entity in the form of ‘America’ in poem. It is the use of apostrophe which ensures that this address should symbolize the concept of free nation or rather, how it is viewed by people. Hughes also does not hesitate to use vernaculars to verify his symbol ‘Sure, call me any ugly name you choose’. It projects that by having grey shades in society; there can be ugly names which can be associated with the common features of growth. It can be a good and positive aspect to the rest of the world but for Native Americans, the true feel of liberty is missing because freedom here does not represent all classes and people.
