The secondary purpose is to give students the opportunity to demonstrate their critical thinking and written communication skills. The third purpose is to demonstrate that you have commenced appropriate research for Assessment 3. Before starting this assessment, please read the assessment rubric at the end of this document. You should always check the unit website for specific instructions, which may be updated continuously. Assessment Task You are required to compile an Annotated bibliography of 5 peer-reviewed journal articles. Step 1. Select an industry sector. Read the Assessment 3 Essay task and identify which sector you will study for Assessments 2 and 3 (e.g. agriculture; construction; financial services; health care; hospitality; manufacturing; mining; retail; transport). Step 2. Undertake research of the recent academic literature since 2010. Identify five (5) academic peer reviewed journal articles relevant to the Assessment 3 Essay topic. It is suggested that you align your selected articles with the unit themes from Weeks 3 to 5 (e.g. job design, HR planning, recruitment and selection). It is recommended that you undertake your research via the online ‘search’ of CQUniversity Library. You cannot use articles from your Assessment 1 presentation for Assessment 2. Step 3. Write 2 paragraphs on each article (400 words) For each journal article, you are to write approximately 400 words in two paragraphs. The first paragraph will summarise the main ideas of the article, identifying the hypothesis, purpose, research methodology and conclusions. More efficient is the workforce, higher are the chances of success and vice versa. The article by Anastasiou (2012) examines the importance function of human resource management for effective supply chain management. It identifies the various methods by which the efficiency of the employees can be improved employed in transportation sector. The purpose of this article is presentation of important factors for effective human resource policy and real steps for improvement of supply chain management of an organisation. In addition to that, the author aims to find ways to improve the human resource system so that the supply chain can be improved significantly. The author has used a thematic analysis research model using which the author has stressed on a variety of themes starting from role of human resource in an organisation to establishing relationship between human resources and supply chain. Finally, the author concludes that human resource practices such as training, motivation and employee commitment play an integral role in improving efficiency of employees employed in transportation department. Human resource management is one of critical element that paves the way for the success of the organisation, irrespective of the industry in which the firm operates. In addition to that, human resource practices should lay due focuses on encouraging innovation and creative thinking. Due focus should be paid on improving skills of employee through training programmes.
In the article, Anastasiou (2012) lays major focus on improving logistic and supply chain of a firm. In a firm operating in transportation industry, supply chain is one of the integral part. An effective supply chain provides competitive advantage to the firm. The findings of the study will be useful for the transportation sector because it requires employees to work hard physically as well as mentally. Providing proper training, motivation and other such things of the employees will significantly improve the employee productivity. Proper co-ordination among the employee will reduce the wastage of time that will increase the efficiency of the process. Imparting proper training to employee will lead to reduction in wastage of resources that will reduce the cost for the organisation. The data collection methods will be improved that will lead to decrease in efforts and increase in efficiency that will be double benefit for the organisation. Developing the communication skills of employee through training and motivation will lead to increase in consumer satisfaction that will ensure a firm grip on clients in the competitive world.
