How is our community connected to global trends? These trends could be
related to the environment, the global economy, public health,
international conflicts, and so forth.
2. How are personal experiences in our community connected to universal
experiences? These could include challenges such as violence, poverty,
and homelessness or positive experiences such as artistic traditions,
rituals, and celebrations.
3. Culture is a way of living, believing, behaving, communicating, and
understanding the world that is shared by members of a social unit. What
are some of the familiar aspects of all cultures, and how are they
addressed similarly or differently in our community and in communities
around the world?
4. Identify one issue our community has in common with others around the
world? A key question to ask is “Who else around the world is affected by
the issues, concerns, and trends that affect our community?” and vice
versa: “How does this global issue, concern, or trend affect our
community?”
5. Write a concluding paragraph. This paragraph should contain a summary
of your findings and demonstrate the significance of your findings to the
concept of local/global connections.
Examine the inequalities of health care in Canada, which exist in spite of a
universal health care program. These inequities can include social,
economic, political and demographic inequities; ethnic and health
disparities, and/or access to health care.
2. Apply concepts of global health to a local population such as the homeless
population in Toronto.
3. Discuss how awareness of global health issues will improve our ability to
care for patients in our own communities as future health care
professionals.
4. Draw parallels between global health challenges in developing countries
and challenges here at home (in Canada).
5. Write a concluding paragraph. This paragraph should contain a summary
of your findings and demonstrate the significance of your findings to the
concept of global health at home.
