Introduction
The aviation industry offers its people a daylong service, which inclines customers with a 24*7 support system. This daylong availability service is highly challenging for the career of a flight crew. They are imposed with long duty schedules, short intervals along with circadian rhythm disruption, which causes sleeplessness. High load of work and less time for sleep gives birth to fatigue among the flight crews. With the intention of maintaining optimal functions of a day, an adult human being requires 7 to 9 hours of sleep, which is highly unmanageable by the flight crews.
The Case Study
Hence, the success and best service providing is possible in any Aviation sector, if the employees and the running crews of the airlines limited receive adequate of motivation and psychological attention as well as motivation sessions from the management and the leaders. In this paper for the further enrichment of the paper, it is very important to mention the case study of Virgin Australia. The Virgin Australia is the official trading name of Virgin Australia Pty Ltd and it is considered as Australia based largest airline with regard of the fleet size for the use of the Virgin brand (Crane, 2015).
However, there have been recent charges or to say allegation against the management of the organisation that as compared to the hectic schedule and long working hours of the crew members, they do not receive adequate psychological wellbeing. Their rest and sleeping hour is very less as compared to the tight schedule of the duties that are to be executed by them. Therefore, at present the flight is in the eye of the Australian Aviation sector, as due to the hectic schedule of the crew the crews are becoming fatigued (Crane, 2015). Hence, due to this, the chances of flight delay and accident are probable and it is possible because of the fatigues of the crewmembers.
Analysing the Factors that Causes Fatigue
The impacts of fatigue among the flight crews are two-dimensional: primarily, it causes the health and wellbeing of the crew and secondly, it affects the service delivery and management of the passengers regarding the cabin services (Rosekind et al., 2016). The reason for the first fact is associated with sleeplessness and circadian disruption. The second factor on the other way is an impact of improper rest being awake throughout the night for serving passengers in an international flight, work pressure and environment of working and the insufficiency in the knowledge sharing process regarding the fatigue management skill.
The efficiency of sleep is not only required to minimise the gap of sleeplessness or to recover state of restlessness, this is required to make a balance in work and personal life (Roach, Darwent, Sletten & Dawson, 2019). It is true that Virgin Australia at present is one of the best airlines in Australia and nearly 20 million passengers travel in the Virgin Australia airlines every year. It is very important to mention here that through the current service quality of the Virgin Australia has been little bit lagging behind (Crane, 2015).
However, it is one of the significant airlines at international, which never has had any kind of fatal crash. Hence, in this regard, no casualty or fatal crash has taken place for virgin Airlines. Nevertheless, in some years back the flights of Virgin Airlines delayed due to continuous traffic congestion (Crane, 2015). The major reason behind that was fatigue of the employees as compared to the total number of flights operated daily, the total number of employees were very low.
In addition to this, the maintenance of the flights that was associated with the comfort of the passengers was also impacted negatively. However, the organisation with the implementation of the mobile app based technology for the assistance of the passengers has effectively replaced this problem.
Standard operational procedures were found not being followed properly by the crews in times of landing, which caused the flight, dashed into top areas and damaged the life and living of people. FAA or Federal Aviation Administration, Transport Association of America (TAA), Air Transport Association of America (ATAA) has taken the fatigue issues as fact of consideration and in an attempt to imply Safety Management System (SMS) to resolve issues regarding the airline operations (Signal et al., 2019).
With help of the ASAP that is, Aviation Safety Action Programmes, new measures for rescheduling the working structure or service management have been scheduled. The strengthening of the management factors related to the service and fatigue undergoes training efficacy. Therefore, conducting knowledge based programs to enrich learning and service efficiency of the crews might help in taking actions in case of danger.
Ways in which a Flight Crew Get Impacted by Fatigue
Human performance in the Aviation industry plays an important role as it acknowledges the crews with safety and efficiency enhancement (Caldwell, 2018). This helps them get integrated with the technological implication that might be exempted in their working excellence. The duties of the crews are dedicated to the health and safety of a passenger. Therefore, indulging with the basic concepts of serving a passenger in association with the concepts and skill of aviation is an important...
