How do the rabbit’s ears change to help the rabbit stay warm in the winter?
The Hubble Space Telescope uses graphite‐epoxy (GrE) metering tubes
to maintain a primary‐to‐secondary mirror despace of less than 3µm
over a 5‐m distance. The CTE of these tubes can be tuned by varying the
fraction of epoxy and by changing orientation of the graphite fibers with
respect to the optical axis. What CTE is required for a uniform on‐orbit
temperature change of ΔT=30K? What assumptions are being made
with respect to the CTE that could modify this calculation?
