How Did Dunes Most Likely Form?
Dunes form when wind blows into a sheltered area behind the obstacles. Dunes grow as grains of sand accumulate. Dunes are primarily the formation of land composed by wind or water driven sand. In this regard, the most common example is Longitudinal Dunes. Narrow elongated dunes are formed when the winds blow in two convergent directions.
The stronger the wind, the more powerful would be the dunes. It occurs in different sizes and shapes that are formed by the interaction of the air as well as the water and creates dunes. Every dune has a windward side and a slip face. A windward side is that part of the side where the wind is blowing and pushing up the materials. On the other hand, the slip face is the side simply without any wind. It is rather smoother than the windward section.
Sand dunes are created when the wind blows strong and deposits the sands on the top on after another until a mound type of formation is created. Once that first mound is formed, sand piles up on the windward side more and more until the edges of the dunes collapsed under its own weight. The formation of this type of mound entirely depends on the nature of the wind blow and flow. The more powerful a wind is, further it would have that much strength to carry the...
