Hoey was able to reveal an analogous process of editing among lifestyle migrants who relocated in order to bring about what they felt was a necessary break from established personal ritual and routine. They used their deliberate act of relocation to redefine priorities and, in many cases, to get in touch with what they describe as a “true self,” quite apart from the career-driven selves that they attempted to leave behind.
