HIST 2321/World Civilizations ITexas A&M University-San Antonio Spring 2020Najjaj World Civilizations I—Exam #3 Exam #3 includes all material covered in Chapters 8 and 9 of the Tignor textbook. Carefully follow the directions for this exam, as I will deduct ten (10) points from an exam grade for not following the directions. There are five (5) essays listed below. Choose the four (4) you can answer the best. I will not give extra credit for answering more than four. Use the textbook first in answering the questions; Internet use should be done carefully and only with reliable sources (no Wikipedia!) There should be no quotes from any source, including your textbook; all essays should be written in your own words, so no bibliography is needed. Each essay should be a minimum of one, double-spaced page, with each essay worth nineteen (19) points. All essays should be submitted in one file to my e-mail address. In addition, all essays will be run through the Turnitin.com website to discourage plagiarism. Anyone who is found to have plagiarized their essays will earn a grade of zero for the exam. The exam is due by midnight on April 13. Any work submitted after that time will lose ten (10) points per day for every day it is late. 1. What are the Five Pillars of the Faith in Islam? Your textbook doesn’t necessarily spell it out that clearly, so you may use the Internet to answer this question; just be sure it is a reliable website. Write in essay format, and give a detailed explanation of the significance of each one. 2. Compare and contrast the Western and Eastern Roman Empires. How were they similar yet also different? 3. (Hint: This is as much about politics and society as it is about religion.) Be specific and detailed in your answer. 4. The Tang Dynasty was very important in the history of medieval China. Why? What did they accomplish? 5. What is the Bantu migration and why is it important? Give a detailed explanation of its historical significance.
