Some teachers call it Drop Everything and Read (DEAR); others call it Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) or Sustained Quiet Uninterrupted Reading Time (SQUIRT); and still others call it something else. Regardless of what you call it, based on this chapter do you think silent reading time is a good use of the precious minutes in a school day? Why or why not? If you are going to allow for silent reading, what do you think is most important to remember about this part of the day? If you are not going to have it, how do you think that time is beter spent?
