Some teachers call it Drop Everything and Read (DEAR); others call it Sustained Silent Reading (SSR) or Sustained Quiet Uninterrupted Reading Time (SQUIRT); and still others call it something else. Regardless of what you call it, based on this chapter do you think silent reading time is a good use of the precious minutes in a school day? Why or why not?
