SECTION 1
INTRODUCTION
In recent working scenario of the retail sector companies like B&M, employee engagement and wages have an important aspect of study not only for research professionals but also for the Senior management in the Organisations (Sonnetag,2011). The employee engagement influences all the major outcomes of the Companies. Increased engagement is often related to increased outcomes like organisational effectiveness, employee satisfaction, decreased staff turnover and enhanced productivity (Evenson,2014). People spend one third of their lifetime at their workplaces. Highly engaged employees fully indulge themselves at their work and utilize various resources to complete their work. Whenever there are changes in engagement levels of employees, it affects the business outcomes seriously (Rothman,2015).Therefore in present economic culture, the organisations need to discover more ways to encourage the employees and motivate them to increase their levels of engagement. Companies like B& M have shifted towards the trends of total reward packages to raise the engagement levels and motivate their employees (HayGroup,2015). For working extra hours and putting in additional efforts in offices, the employees want to feel valued and appreciated. They need to have direct relation between the efforts been put by them in the organisations and their benefits achieved from the company. The wages provided by the organisations to boost the employee engagement are termed as total reward. According to Reilly and Brown (2008), the total reward can be described as an organisation’s complete value proposition, involving direct and indirect rewards, career growth opportunities and many other services provided by the employers to their employees. The perception of employees about the wages and benefits provided by the organisations are directly related to their level of engagement (Hewitt,2015).
The purpose of this assignment is to design a research proposal about impact of employee engagement and wages on workforce performance in B&M Company to understand the various factors governing the performance outcomes of the Organisation. The research proposal is centered on how the engagement of employees and benefits provided by the organisation affect the outcome and performance of the company.
The organisation of this assignment is as follows. Section I includes the introduction followed by the Problem Statement, Research Objectives, Justification of Proposal, and expected outcomes. Section II involves conceptual framework, Research Hypothesis and Methodology. Section III is made of Organisation of Study, Gantt Chart, and budget required for completion of the project.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Failure to engage the employees costs an annual loss of USD 250 billion to 350 billion annually in United States. Many studies have been conducted on difference between more engaged and less engaged employees and their role in improving the outcome of the Organisations. It highlights the importance of further possibility of research on the topic.
Though the Organisations follow many strategies to engage the talented workforce, it becomes very difficult for them to maintain the same set of talent consistently for longer period of times. Therefore, it becomes imperative to analyse and explore the possible causes of the situation. This study will explore various reasons how the employee engagement and the wages influence their performance in the Company. The research will help to improve the ways to improve productivity of B&M Company.
RESEARCH AIM & OBJECTIVES
The study aims to examine the influence of workforce engagement and wages on overall workforce performance. The objective of the research is to analyze the impact of employee engagement and wage influences over the performance of employees at B&M Retail Company.
JUSTIFICATIONS OF THE PROJECT
It is evident that more engaged workforces are more confident than the less engaged ones (Perrin,2006). 84% of the highly engaged employees experience that they contribute positively towards imparting quality services to the Organisation while only 31% people from less engaged employees feel their role to be positively contributing to the Company. Lower levels of workforce engagement also negatively affect the employee’s alignment with the goals of the Organisation. Such employees mainly work for the sake of benefits, and financial gains. They have no interest in working to achieve the organisational goals (Gruman and Saks, 2011).
The studies reveal that financial profits and increased wages though important, yet are unable to encourage and motivate the employees towards more engagement. Simply offering more salary and wages do not guarantee enhanced performance (Anitha,2014). The organisations need to develop strategies to appeal the intrinsic requirements of the workforce. Employee engagement can be increased by increasing the level of interaction between the employee and the Organisation. Various strategies to increase the workforce engagement involve increased responsibility, increased participation in decision making, and increased accountability.
This proposal will investigate extensive literature review about strategic planning adopted by B&M to improve employee participation and motivation to enhance the performance of the employees. Under these conditions, following are the benefits of undertaking this research proposal:
1. It will increase awareness about how the engagement of employees is associated with their performance.
2. It will underline all the factors the Organisations like B&M need to change in their strategic planning and implementation to encourage more participation.
3. The outcomes of the research proposal will be extremely beneficial for the policy makers and senior management of B&M and similar companies.
4. The proposal will also benefit the new companies in pre estimating the impacts of employee engagement and performance. It...
