the safe working system is provided in the organization, the work is recorded and also communication is done with the employees to for defining in effective manner regarding the acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. The safety and health policy are also important to be followed in salon, especially during Covid-19 pandemic, where the safety and health factors had become a major priority. In this report a detailed discussion is done with respect to the WHS policy and procedure followed Beauty Crew Salon, Australia. The report covers all the necessary requirements for the health and safety aspect of the customers and the employees of the salon, along with the necessary responsibilities that is required to be taken place by the management of the salon.
Background and Functional Service
Beauty crew is one of the leading salons in Australia, with a number of beauty related support system and salon care services are provided to them. The salon provides a range of beauty and hair treatment for both male and female, and it also includes the makeup, body and health services, fragrances and the skin care products which are of premium quality (Beautycrew, 2021). Along with the salon service the company also do sales of a number of beauty range of products, which ranges from cosmetics to skin treatment products. There are certain key functional areas that are required to be followed during the salon service. Prudent et al. (2020) have discussed that the brand image of a salon is dependent on the quality of service they offer during a specific period of time. Along with that one of the major components is to include the general component within the establishment of the salon to determine its efficiency. During the operation of a salon there are number of challenges faced by them, which can be solved by the use of functional areas. As discussed by Eva (2020) the first functional area in a salon is scheduling the appointment, as this is the stage which makes the bookings for customers easier and it also helps the employees of the salon to properly schedule their work and the services they need to provide to the specific customer. The next functional area is providing the varieties of services to the customers, such as hair and makeup, spa services, bridal makeups and many more, which provides the customers to receive a number of services under a single roof. The third and most important functional area is maintaining the privacy policies, as the reliability of the salon depends on the manner in which the customer details are protected and maintained in a secured manner.
Therefore, based on the complications of the work in the Beaty Crew salon there is a need for maintain the WHS policy and procedure because all kind of work and treatment process taken place in the salons are related with the safety of the customers. As discussed by Smith et al. (2017) the Work Health and Safety legislation in the salon is responsibility of both the owner and the employees working. The HR of the salon with the consultation with the management is responsible for preparing a WHS policy, which will be further supported by the financial department because of the economic support required for the implementation of the WHS policy by providing all types of training to the employees.
WHS Act 2011
For any government of any nation, their prime responsibility is to formulate certain legislations or policies that will protect the citizens who are engaged in any kind of work-related activities. The Australian Government had similarly formulated the WHS legislation, which is Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (BSW) (the Act) provides the framework to protect the people from the risk of their health as well as their safety in the workplace. This legislation also deals with the promotion of the safe and healthy work environment for the employees, which is the prime task of the management of the organization to implement the directives given in the policy (Federal Register of Legislation, 2021). The WHS Act 2011 was prepared in order to fulfil four major objectives, such as: secure the health of employees and customers at the institution, safety and welfare of the employees and other people present in the workplace, protect the general public from the risk of health and safety regarding any kind of business activities, and elimination of the workplace risk by identification of the possible source of the risk. In the Beauty Crew salon, the WHS Act of 2011 is very much applicable because it also deals with the health and safety aspects.
Since, the Beauty Crew salon deals with the beauty aspect of the people, therefore, it is important that the area where the customers sit down and all kind of beauty treatments are done, that must be safe and secured. Since, in the present pandemic of Covid-19 it is also very much important to follow all types of sanitisation and safety measures to control the spread of the virus to other people. Next important thing is that in the pandemic situation along with customers, it is also important to ensure the safety of employees by maintain safe distance, sanitisation and necessary protective gears, which will keep them protected and also the safety of customers will be ensured. And lastly it is very important for the Beauty Crew salon to identify the source of probable risk and then based on that necessary mitigation plan must be implemented to avoid any major incident (Furci and Sunindijo, 2020).
Consultation Strategy
For any type of organization to operate in a proper manner it is important to have a good communication along with the consultation opportunities available with all the employees working in the organization. As discussed by Boulais (2020) that in the consultation process of the organization there must be presence of employees, contractors, subcontractors, labour hire employees, apprentices and volunteers along with students who are working as a trainee to gain experience. In the Beauty Crew salon, the consultation committee will include the management, the employees, the contractual employees, the beauty consultant, the volunteers and the students who are there to gather experience. During the implementation of the WHS Consultation Mechanism to be used in the salon, it is very important to review the relevant legislation in order to ensure that the mechanism established are compliant with the WHS Act 2011 requirements.
In accordance with the WHS Act 2011, the management of the Beauty Crew salon must consult with the employees regarding the identification of hazards and also assessing risks and also deciding the measures to control the identified risks. Making proper decisions on the adequacy of the facilities for the welfare of the workers.
