Assignment Requirements Option 2 Top of Form Bottom of Form · The critical essay should address one of the prompts noted below relating to the topic of personality theory. Responses should address only one prompt. While the style of the paper is the student’s choice, all papers must be grounded in content from the course and underscored by quality academic sources. Evidence of critical thinking is expected. Where relevant, positions can be taken; however, this should take the form of informed argumentation supported by sound logic and, where possible, relevant existing theory and empirical evidence.  The prompts for this option of the major assessment are: · Freud and Jung suggested structures of the psyche that were quite similar in some respects but notably different in others.  Describe their varying structures of the psyche, including explicit discussion of their similarities and differences (i.e., compare and contrast). Also discuss why these theorists might have arrived at differing conclusions. · It is often observed that many personality theorists based their theories on their own lives and experiences. Choose at least two theorists whose personal experiences and/or the social climate they lived in may have greatly influenced their theories and discuss in detail. As well, provide a discussion of the implications of this in terms of the universality of these theories. · The grand theories of personality aim to identify something universal regarding the development and/or functioning of personality.  Discuss whether a universal explanation of personality is likely to exist, and whether the pursuit of such grand theories good for the development of personality theory or a hindrance. Assignment Requirements for Quantitative research report Concerning the quantitative research report, students will be expected to build a traditional scientific research paper comprised of an introduction to the research topic, a methods section on how the research was conducted, a results section describing what results you found from the measures that were taken, and a section discussing the meaning of the results and how they fit within the wider research area.  We provide all students with methods details and pre-analysed research findings that they will use to write their reports. Students are NOT required to gather data or run studies themselves for this research report. We provide students with all materials for writing the research report. The research report is to be written so that an independent reader can understand what your empirical question is, why it is an important problem to consider, how you examined the problem with the data/results we provide you, and what you found in the results.  Your writing will demonstrate that you are aware of the most important research in this topic area, what that research says or suggests, what the weaknesses are, and in general terms what the research evidence suggests (e.g., Does exposure to advertising for cigarettes lead to young people starting smoking, or children smoking more?).
