You have been asked by your manager to write a report analysing an Australian company’s underlying strategy that has resulted in it moving some of its activities offshore with the loss of several local jobs as well as expanding into other international markets. Executive Summary
Strategic management is a very targeted and efficient concept tha
t can define the success or failure of any organisation. A proper planning and the execution of those policies is the driving force that can lead business to success. Expansion of business offshore occurs majorly due to two causes either to expand the name or the business was not able to do well at prior location and therefore is looking to enter new market. Whatever the case may be, consequences are highly variable. This report focuses upon one such company that is trying to expand offshore and the rationales behind such action.
Introduction
When it comes to business, expanding offshore is not an easy because there are a number of factors, which needs to be considered such as social, economic and political variations, offshore risks and much more. Moving a business offshore creates job opportunity in the host country however; people are left jobless within the prior country. Strategic management policy works in order to benefit the business irrespective of the location and therefore, companies moves to other geographical locations in search of profit. This report focuses upon one such company ‘IDP Education’ that has been continuously sifting its jobs offshore. Further, in this report, external and internal factor behind this shift will be discussed and the competitive advantage that company may attain upon moving offshore will be explained along with the limitations behind this strategy and associated risks.
Analysis
IDP Education is one of the biggest and one of the oldest global leaders in international education service. They provides students with the selection of right course in the right country for them. More than 700 Universities are partnered with them across the globe. Moreover, it is a publically listed company on the ASX (Australian Securities Exchange) and is owned 50% by Australian Universities. They have such a great hold when it comes to education counselling industry because they provides their services to the students even when they are studying (Knight, 2015). However, they have been found to shift their jobs overseas and as a result, people in Australia are being left jobless.
In order to identify the internal and external factors behind this strategy SWOT analysis of IDP Education will be performed. Under internal factors Strengths (S) and Weaknesses (W) will be analysed while under external factors Opportunities (O) and Threats (T) will be analysed.
