Assessment 1
1. The first strategy that would be used would be the brief situation analysis. This involves explaining the situation to the team members. It would take a significant amount of time to explain everything individually, so group members who perform the same tasks, or act in the same manner would be taken for briefing together (Sacks, Shannon, Dawes, Rollo, Nguyen, Russell, Ko and Maggard-Gibbons, 2015). This would help the team members understand the situation, and ask any doubts if any. All of the rules would have to laid down clearly. The consequences of missing a deadline, for the individual member, for the team and foe the company would be discussed as well, so that the team members are clear on their own responsibility.
2. The main support that would be given to team members in order to ensure that the quality of their work does not deteriorate would be verbal support. This would mean praising them when the work meets or exceeds their regular standards, and providing encouragement when the work is not up to the mark as well (Brock, McAliney, Ma, and Sen, 2017). This will ensure that the employees know that they have the support of their manager, which also helps them give their best to the organization.
3. The main communication methods that would be used would be:
a. Verbal Communication: This would be to deal with team members, as well as some of the key stakeholders (Wong, Gang, Szyld and Mahoney, 2016). This would include the use of storytelling, and would be beneficial in crucial conversations.
b. Written communication: This would include texts, emails, and the traditional pen and paper communication. It can be used to pass on important information, and to ensure that there is proof of the conversation.
c. Face-to-face communication: This is generally used only for very important circumstances, and for VIP stakeholders, since it would take a lot of time off from work.
4. As a manager, the best way to be viewed as a positive role model would be to do all of the work that has been assigned to me, and to make sure to treat the employees as humanly as possible (Salas, Shuffler, Thayer, Bedwell and Lazzara, 2015). Employees who see that the manager is treating them in a kind and respectful manner tend to respect their manager, and those that see that the manager is doing their work properly, and taking responsibility of his own actions would look up to the manager with respect. This would be the best way to become a role model.
5. The first strategy that would be used would be the suggestion box strategy. Employees would be allowed to drop in suggestions in the suggestion box whenever they wish to do so, and this would be taken into consideration when making decisions. Another strategy would be to have a representative of the employees in key meetings, and to ensure that they have their say (Ghaferi and Dimick, 2016). This would also help in making sure that the employees were aware of key decisions, and having a representative would help them feel involved in the decision-making process as well.
6. The manager would be able to provide solutions to many of the problems that the team might come across. The manager would have more access to resources than the team leader or members of the team, and would be able to help the team out in any way that is possible (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart and Wright, 2017). This would be the primary reason that it is important to keep an open chain of communication with the manager. The manager might also like to be updated about the performance of the team, and there might be regulations that would ensure that the manager is kept updated. This would also be a reason to keep an open line of communication with them.
7. There are 5 stages of group development:
a. Forming Stage: This is the stage wherein the group is formed, and the members take time in getting to know each other. It is during this time that members are discreet with each other.
b. Storming Stage: At this stage, every member tries to assert their dominance, which leads to a power struggle in the group.
c. Norming Stage: During this stage, the group becomes fun and enjoyable. Communication, productivity and interaction is at an all-time high in the group.
d. Performing Stage: This is the stage where cooperation is at its highest, and every member performs to their maximum in order to get the work done (Salmon, Stanton and Jenkins, 2017).
e. Adjourning Stage: This is the ending of the team, and is most confusing on the team members.
8. The first difficult behaviour that had been witnessed had been a lack of responsibility in submitting the work on time. For many employees, deadlines had been seen as something that could be ignored (Carter, Ro, Alcott and Lattuca, 2016.). This occurs when members have had too much work piled onto them, and cannot finish on time. Another behaviour that could be seen was lack of communication, mainly caused due to internal problems between two members.
9. The main responsibilities in allocating work to the employees would be to allocate it according to the policy, and to allocate work equally, or according to the work that the employee can do. When it comes to receiving work from their employers, the employees have the responsibility of finishing the work on time, and according to the standards of the organization. There are no policies for overtime due to work allotment.
