Week 9
Children’s literature is deeply rooted in lullabies, fables, folk songs, and other orally transmitted stories. Readers belonging to the category of children are said to knit narratives that are in sync with the environment th
ey live in. The article brings home the idea of critical literacy through which the authors have paved a way towards a critical analysis of responses of children as and when they read and understand any piece of literature, especially children’s literature. It digs deeper into the process of various forms of communication that children use to respond to a larger project explaining multimodality.
Visual and written modes of communication have been analyzed in the article. It explains how the inclusion of multimodal text is important. The texts which use more than one mode to communicate are known as Multimodal texts. The authors maintain that print-based approaches for literacy education are not appropriate. Reader roles framework, despite being a prominent tool has not found a place in the literature curriculum. The research was conducted using qualitative methodology with a small-scale case study approach in which news methods of interviewing were analyzed. Through different stories, it was seen that parameters like characters, opening pages, colors, objects, and the distance between the reader and the characters in the image, describe a lot about how children analyze or critique literature texts.
Personal responses nourished from the visual and linguistic features of the narrative form a large part of the critical ability of the children. Their sense of who to read and how to read evolves with time. All of the above factors were also evident in their drawings is an interesting point of observation in the article.
Week 10

Bloom’s taxonomy indicates how cognitive skills are developed in children as they begin to read and analyze the situation around them with the help of narratives, images, and songs. Toca store takes this entire assertion one step further and helps children to enhance their thinking skills...
