Your final essay will require you to write a 1200+ Word academic essay



in MLA Format that compares and contrasts ONE ancient mythological



hero (or villain) with ONE modern pop culture superhero (or super



villain). This can be something like comparing Captain America and



Odysseus as the perfect representation of their countries, Dark Phoenix



and Circe as the “monstrous feminine,” or Arjuna and Luke Skywalker’s



path to redemption and overcoming their self-doubt and fear. The



possibilities are limitless.



This will require heavy research about the hero’s journey and how



cultures typify and define heroism to draw an apt comparison. You will



need a

MINIMUM

of three outside scholastic sources that provide



academic commentary to back up your thesis. This means your works



cited page should have a minimum of

five

entries—2 primary sources



where your heroes come from and 3 secondary supporting sources.



Theses sources MUST be quoted and cited in proper MLA format. Any
