Here is a quote from D. L. Parnas [1985]: “Because of the very large improvements in productivity that were noted when compiler languages were introduced, many continue to look for another improvement by introducing better languages. Better notation always helps, but we cannot expect new languages to provide the same magnitude of improvement that we got from the first introduction of such languages. . . . We should seek simplifications in programming languages, but we cannot expect that this will make a big difference.” Discuss.
