Before you begin this task, meet with your assessor to discuss the three clients who will be most suitable for you to work with to complete this assessment task. Keep in mind that confidentiality and privacy of these clients is essential. There will also be requirements around informed consent from these clients. Your assessor will guide you in relation to your informed consent requirements. However, generally you will be required to provide each client with a Client Consent Form. Please note that it could be possible to combine this assessment with another assessment where you are providing a counselling session for a client as the key focus of this assessment is using communication skills. This means you can simply run your counselling session for another unit you are completing and make sure you integrate the use of communication skills as per the requirements of this assessment. Speak to your assessor about this possibility. The skills and knowledge that you are required to demonstrate in relation to your work with the three clients are all included in your portfolio – so look at this in detail before you begin your assessments. In addition to identifying three people to work with, you will require access to a typical counselling set up, including a private space and comfortable chairs for you and your client and other items such as a small table where water and tissues can be accessed . As part of your Portfolio, take photos of the space in which you complete your counselling session. If you are unsure about how to do this, speak to your assessor.
