Ethical Issue Presentation
Introduction
This presentation is based on a incident In connection with the accidental overdose of a patient in Tennessee, a former nurse was found guilty by a jury of criminally negligent murder.
In a case that has captured the interest of patient safety advocates and nurses' organisations around the nation, RaDonda Vaught, 37, was also found guilty on Friday of gross negligence of an incapacitated adult (Barry et al,2022).
On December 26, 2017, RaDonda Vaught, 37, gave Charlene Murphey, 75, an injection of the paralysing medication vecuronium rather than the sedative Versed.
On December 26, 2017, rather than administering the sedative Versed, Vaught gave 75-year-old Charlene Murphey an injection of the paralysing medication vecuronium. Vaught openly acknowledged that she had mishandled the prescription on multiple occasions that day, but her defence lawyer contended that the nurse was not behaving improperly and that structural issues at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center were at least partially to blame for the mishap (Barry et al,2022).

Stress from the job and exhaustion from the pandemic-era working conditions and ongoing hospital staff shortages.
Her situation was seen as just another danger to the industry, one that can chill patient care if nurses became less willing to disclose errors (Kelman,2022).
The American Nurses Association concurred, stating in a statement released in March that it was very troubled by this conviction and the grave repercussions of criminalising the honest reporting of errors.
Nurses must take accountability for their activities because they are in charge of the care they give patients. They must honestly evaluate their own abilities in every particular circumstance and, if necessary, seek advice or work together with others. Whether the action is taken directly by the nurse or is outsourced to another nurse or healthcare provider, nurses are responsible for all judgments and decisions made while in practise (Kelman,2022).
It is the duty of nurses to have open discussions about ethical matters with their coworkers on a regular basis. Through membership in professional groups, nurses must reaffirm the ideals of the profession to other members and uphold collective adherence. Nurses must be actively involved in social change and reform initiatives, particularly those that touch on access to healthcare, homelessness, and the stigma of disease.
The conflict and resolution
In hospitals, are patients in quality service?
It is challenging to adhere to evidence-based safety treatments completely in poor work settings, which may contribute to the knowledge and practise divide in patient harm prevention.
While it is simple to criticise Vaught's actions after the fact, workarounds and overrides are a very typical occurrence in the healthcare industry (Kiani,2022).
In order to improve health care systems and move closer to achieving effective universal health coverage (UHC) in line with Sustainable Development Goal , patients' safety while receiving safe, high-quality medical services is a requirement. promote...
