I need to calculate the SSI (surgical site infection) rate. The formula is:

Number of infections of clean surgical cases for a period

Number of surgical operations for a period


The data provided is:
Post-op infections: 2
Nosocomial infections: 4
Number of surgical operations: 479


What I am struggling with: should I count post-op infections, nosocomial infections, or both? The book gives VERY limited information regarding what should be counted.
