Health Manager Development Plan
Students are to critically review the literature and create an individual health manager development plan (in narrative form i.e. an essay) that is based on critical self-reflection and evaluation and development strategies that are highly relevant to you. The characteristics given in this assessment have be identified as being crucial to health service managers in the rapidly changing world of healthcare today.
The work is to focus only on all of the following characteristics:
• Caring
• Dedicated
• Diplomatic
• Adaptable
• One other characteristic selected by the student.
Guidelines:
• The development of each capability must be addressed by evidence and/or real-world examples (from within the workplace preferably, but they could have occurred outside the workplace if necessary). Examples must soundly depict findings in the literature as being reflective of the characteristic (please show a depth of knowledge through reference to reliable literature). Example must also have strong face validity (i.e. on the face of it, it would be highly likely to occur in a health environment or other setting).
• Information on how students will monitor and self-assess development progress for each capability is required.
• Please do not define each characteristic (I know what they mean), instead clearly convey what they mean to you and how you enact them now, your plan for improvement and how you will know you have improved these capabilities (how you will monitor/assess).
• Appraise, synthesize, and use only the best available evidence.
• Responses must be created specifically for this subject (no repurposing of assignments used for other purposes – Turnitin identifies this).
• Responses must be highly individual and demonstrate an indepth understanding of the available academic literature in each area.
Identify and plan the development of the assignment, including an investigation of the characteristics under investigation.
• Consider how you demonstrate these characteristics and develop highly valid examples from your work and life and align them with findings from the literature. Your examples

Briefly introduce the topic and explain how the question or issue will be answered
. Introduces the main aim of the essay and tells the reader what to expect in terms of responding to the essay requirements. Example: This essay provides an analysis of particular character traits that are important to being a successful ……….. and provides valid arguments on how to improve ….I will need to ….
This essay should be based on self-reflective characteristic of a good manager bearing in mind those characteristics listed above.
