Assignment Description



Effective leaders can use their emotions in a positive way to benefit their organization, their employees, and stakeholders. Dyeand Garman (2006) state, “The most effective leaders have a deeper understanding of their emotion” (p. 18), in their discussion of emotional intelligence (EI) and why it is important.



Over the last several years, organizations that are actively engaged in leadership development have expressed keen interest in understanding EI. Research suggests that EI may be more important than intellectual intelligence in determining leadership success, and leadership development programs may offer better outcomes if EI is better understood (Sadri, 2012).




  • Write a paper that defines and describes emotional intelligence.


  • Additionally, detail the value of EI possession among health care leaders.


  • Provide at least 1 example, real or hypothetical, of how emotional intelligence has been or can be used by effective leaders.

Abstract
The paper discusses about Emotional Intelligence (EI) and its elements that helps health care leaders to run the organization effectively. The paper further disc
usses about the components of the Emotional Intelligence. Beneficial traits of EI are also included in the paper that assists in better understanding of health care employees’ situation and productivity level. Lastly, the paper discusses about theoretical utilization process of Emotional Intelligence for better understanding of new candidates mentality, recruitment and lastly organization running procedure.
Definition of Emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence (EI) is intricately associated with cognitive ability, which assists interpersonal behavior. The terminology “Emotional Intelligence” was introduced by noted psychologist and behavioral science journalist Dr. Daniel Goleman in his book in the year 1995. (Goleman & Boyatzis, 2017). According to Dr. Goleman EI is a person's capability for managing his/her thoughts in order to express those properly and efficiently. As said by Goleman, EI is the prevalent single forecasting indicator that helps in attaining success in the place of work within the healthcare industry.
Emotional Intelligence in Leadership
Emotional Intelligence is a very important element related to effectual leadership in the healthcare industry. Leaders working in the Healthcare segment should own a strong understanding of how their sentiment and acts influence the adjacent public. (Crowne et al., 2017). It is always better when a doctor or a nurse can relate to and work with others, the more proficient doctor or nurse will become in associating with patients for the purpose of understanding their requirements, recognize, manage frustrations, as well as coming up with lasting clarifications.
Components of emotional intelligence
In his book “Emotional Intelligence”, Dr. Goleman has presented five of the EI categories as following:
Self-awareness
An individual possesses a well sense of EI self-awareness when they recognize their strength and weaknesses, along with which way their acts are affecting others. An individual having emotional self-awareness is generally approachable too, and can learn from, can take productive criticism beyond one who does not possess emotional self-awareness. (Bal & Firat, 2017).
Self-regulation
An individual that possesses a heightened EI level has the capacity of exercising self-discipline and self-management while articulating their emotions.
Motivation
