He seriously considers keeping the money, convincing himself that he needs it more than its owner does, but his attempts to rationalize this course of action are repeatedly interrupted by the insistent demands of the moral law within him. Breaking out in a sweat as he oscillates between temptation and duty, he finally sets his chin and decides that he will do what duty demands. He returns the purse with the money intact to its rightful owner.
