Gregg is beginning to realize that he needs to do something about his 6-year heroin addiction because he has seen the effects of infection (HIV, Hepatitis C) on fellow users (who also have used heroin by injection), and three of them overdosed in the last year. He is not confident, however, that he can stay clean—or even get clean— on his own for a significant period of time, and he is really not even sure how to go about taking the first steps toward change.
