Granrud and his colleagues conducted a number of studies with 5- and 7-month-olds using reaching to investigate infants’ depth perception. These studies found that:
infants as young as 5 months use size information to perceive depth.
binocular disparity is a powerful cue to depth for these infants.
7-month olds but not 5-month-olds reached for the stimulus that appeared closer because it contained interposition information.
neither infant age group was able to use monocular information cues to depth.
