GRADING OF A DISCUSSION:

• The purpose of the discussion question (DQ) is for students to be able to communicate, participate, and think through their thoughts in a public settingwith information they are obtaining in the class.


• Students must create an initial thread (post) before you can view other student's posts.


• Discussions replace a classroom sitting situation. All postings must be completed by the due date and will not be reopened for any reason.


• Reply posts should not be one-liners, off-topic posts, vague statements, unsupported opinions, inadequate explanations or simply say, “I agree” or “good job,"and zero points will be given for these replies.


• DO NOT use the class discussion as a political forum. Any derogatory or explicit comments will result in an automatic zero for the discussion grade.

FOR DISCUSSION:

"How It's Made" is a popular series on thescience and discovery channel. It is short segments that show the production of products.

For this discussion, go to either the science channel or youtube, and find a video on "How It's Made." If you Google How It's Made, it will give you those links. Choose a product that seems interesting to you.
Watch the video and post the link (make sure it works).

1. Describe in sequence the primary steps used to manufacture your product.
2. Explain the costs incurred by the company that would fall into materials, labor, and overhead.
3. What do you think would be the greatest cost in making this product?
4. Discuss whether you think this manufacturer would use job order costing or process costing and why.
