1. Give examples (at least two) of stereotypes people have made about you or someone you care about? Explain how each example would constitute a stereotype and discuss how it made you feel.
Stereotypes exist throughout the societies. It is present everywhere. The two examples of stereotypes and how they made me feel are:
a. Racial stereotypes:
I have seen racial stereotypes many times among my friends. They have been differentiated an commented based on their skin colour. For example, X skin coloured person is more beautiful than Y skinned people.
b. Gender Stereotypes:
Males are considered superior than females in many ways. They have been commented based on their physical ability. For example, once one of my female friend was asked to stop working because it was hectic and it is not meant for females.
2. Provide an example of ethnocentrism and explain how it exemplifies ethnocentrism (make sure you example is different from examples given in the readings or video materials).
Ethnocentrism is a stereotype or evaluation of other culture based on the preconceptions of one’s own culture.
