SH4003: Building your reflections for the Reflective Essay:
Use this template to reflect upon what you have learnt about a topic on the module and how that may affect your future learning and current or future professional practice
Name: ......................................................................... Date .....................................
What: This is the description and self-awareness level and all questions start with the word what.
What have I learnt? What did I hope to learn? Wh
at surprised me?
Every person has got equal rights, irrespective of their condition, which goes for the disabled person also get equal rights with respect to all the citizens. In the disability right provided by the government, I have learnt that under the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA), it will unlawful for any type of organization to discriminate or treat a disabled person less favourability, the reason related to the disability of the person and without any proper justification in the employment. This also applies for the access to goods, facilities, services, managing or buying or renting any land or property or education. I have also learnt that a person cannot be discriminated from the medical treatments, and they should be provided with all types of supportive equipment’s that will help them to carry on their work in smooth manner. From the reports of Thomas & Milligan (2018) the thing that surprised me the most is that around 14.1 million people in the UK have reported of having any form of disability. This number consist of 8% from the child population, 19% belong to the working age group and 45% belong to the pension age population. This number is quite alarming as the number of disability is increasing among the population. I would hope to learn the reason behind the increasing disability among the people, and the steps that are taken by the government

So What: This is the level of analysis and evaluation when we look deeper at what was behind the experience.
So what is the importance of this learning?
The main reason for studying this topic of disability rights is because it will help me in understanding the areas of concern and recommendations in general principles and obligations. Studying contents published from Williams et al. (2018) I have discovered that the global organization are also taking initiative in addressing the issues related to the disability rights. The UN committee was concerned that there is lack of initiative taken in the convention of disability rights consistently across UK. The lack of initiative is regarding providing adequate support to the disabled group in taking proper decision of their life. From the studies I have also found that the UK laws and practices are not appropriate, rather they are used for the discrimination against the disabled people, and also there is lack of information regarding the proper initiatives taken by the government in controlling the crime against the disabled person. Therefore, this study will help in focusing the areas of the policy making and the laws, which will focus on the dignity of the disabled people, accept the disabled person as the part of the human diversity, and acknowledges that the disabled people have the human rights. The study will also recognises that the people are disabled not by the impairments, however, by the barriers created in the society and the environment in which they live. The negative attitude towards them makes many places inaccessible by the disabled, which is a clear violation of basic human rights. Therefore, it is very important to have a thorough study of the right for the disabled people.
So what more do I need to know about this?
I have learnt that disability rights are to provide people with the access to healthcare, to attend school, work in any organization, to express themselves, to participate any sports events and to have the leisure activities. Therefore, in order to ensure that these fundamental rights are received by the people, including the more vulnerable people in the society, the humanity and the inclusion of these people in the society would require action to promote their respect for the dignity and their fundamental rights. Hence, we need to study that what are the possible steps that are needed to be implemented in order to provide the disabled with their rights. From the journal of Liasidou & Symeou (2018) I have learnt more about the steps UN committee has suggested to UK for implementation in order to protect the rights of disabled. The first step is to make the convention as a part of the law of UK, which will provide the courts of UK with the power to enforce the laws. This will also ensure that the human rights model of the disability is protected by the law and that also inform the policies that are affecting the disabled people across UK. I also need to learn about the facts that do the review process is carried regarding the UK’s laws and policies, so that the convention directives fall in line. Studying more will also help me to understand that what kind of...
