Generally, self-identity theories share the concept of selfconsciousness in a network of relations with others or a socially constructed “object.” Cultural identity can provide a sense of historical connection and a sense of connection to others. Such an understanding tends to be a somewhat stable concept of the group that gives little recognition to individual variations within the group and the evolving nature of cultural identity throughout a person’s life.
