Galaxy Types. To give you experience in interpreting the images of galaxies that you see, you can use Starry Night Enthusiast™ to visit a variety of galaxies and determine whether they are spiral, barred spiral, or irregular. Begin by selecting Favourites Deep Space Galaxies Local Universe from the menu.
Now, use the Find pane to visit each of the galaxies listed below in turn. For each object, type its name in the search box of the Find pane but do not press the Enter key. Be careful—include spaces, where indicated, when typing in object names. Click the “+” button to the immediate left of the object in the list of items found. Click the menu buttons at the extreme left of each entry in the list and select the Go There option when you find it. You can press the spacebar to move immediately to the galaxy. Use the Zoom buttons and the Location Scroller to adjust the view so that the galaxy is seen face on. Then write down whether you think it is a spiral (S), barred spiral (SB), or irregular (Irr). You do not need to worry about the subclasses in this question.
