From Example 1.1 and Problem 1.9, find tl1e relationship between the Chezy and Manning coefficients. Check the homogeneity of this relationship.
Example 1.1
A commonly used equation for calculating the velocity of uniform flow, V, through prismatic channels is
where C is the Chezy coefficient; R is the hydraulic radius defined as the cross-section area, A, divided by the wetted perimeter, P; and is the bed slope. Find the dimensions of the Chezy coefficient which satisfy the condition of homogeneity of the equation
Problem 1.9
A commonly used equation for calculating the velocity of uniform flow in open channels (v) is
where v is the velocity of uniform flow, n is the Manning coefficient, R is the hydraulic radius, and S0 is the bed slope. Find the dimensions of the Manning coefficient to ensure that the equation is homogeneous.
