Frequency of musical notes: Counting sharps and flats, there are 12 notes in an octave on a standard piano. If one knows the frequency of a note, then one can find the frequency of the next higher note
by multiplying by the 12th root of 2:
Frequency of next higher note
= Frequency of given note × 21/12 . The frequency of middle C is 261.63 cycles per second. What is the frequency of the next higher note (which is C#) on a piano? What is the frequency of the D note just above middle C? (The D note is two notes higher than middle C.)
