Overview
The postmodern phase of American literature has produced some of the finest gems in terms of poetry and playwrights. Sonia Sanchez and June Jordon stand in the list of pioneer poets as they are categorized to be the champion singers of racial equality. They both began their carrier in the aftermath of World War II and they witnessed the racial segregation along with gender biases influencing the American societies in 1960s.
The following is the appraisal of the contemporary era in which, Sonia and June both initiated their journey as poets.
