For this assignment, you will write an evaluation essay.For this assignment, you can choose to evaluate one of the following:

1. A restaurant or a business


2. A product (cell phone, car, blender, etc) or service (doctor, cell phone service, etc)


3. A website or a blog

You should choose a subject that you can make a confident judgment about, so think about your areas of expertise. You also want to be sure to choose something that is appropriate for the academic situation.

In your essay, you should state your judgment clearly and back your evaluation up with reasons and support.Make sure to describe your subject for readers unfamiliar with it and give them a context for understanding it.Your purpose is to convince readers that your judgment is informed and based on generally accepted standards for this kind of subject. You should use at least one credible outside source to support your evaluation--this could include a website, but NOT wikipedia. This source should be correctly cited in a Works Cited page, as well as correctly quoted and cited at least once within the text of your paper.

A good essay will:

• Evaluate a subject in 1000 to 1250 words--three full pages with at least one word on the 4th page (NOT Including Works Cited page!)


• Begin with an introduction that captures the readers' attention and makes the subject relevant to them


• Contain a thesis at the end of the introduction that asserts an overall, definitive, clear judgment and includes the main points of the paper in the order they will be discussed


• Present the subject by describing it in detail for readers unfamiliar with it


• Give at least three appropriate reasons that reflect the typical values or standards for evaluating your topic. Each reason should have its own paragraph.


• Support each reason with relevant examples, quotes, facts, statistics, or personal anecdotes


• Respond to readers’ likely questions or objections


• Establish the writer’s credibility and authority


• Be organized effectively


• Be free of grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors


• Be in the correct format as stated in the syllabus


• Include the citation of at least one outside source


• Include a correctly formatted Works Cited page (Works Cited page does NOT count towards page count!)
