For this assignment, you will select a character from television or film who exemplifies one of the themes we have discussed in our reading. Choose one of the options below and create a well-written expository essay in which you make a claim, provide evidence from that character’s story and the text you are comparing them too, and write a clear explanation for each point. This is an essay so structure/organization, mechanics (transitions, grammar, spelling, etc…), and your ability to state and support a claim are all part of your final grade.

    Racial disparities are projected in numerous TV shows in American context; there is a complete list of movies and shows which depict how grea
t leaders, players and other influential persons belonging to the black community had to suffer from racial discrimination. Jackie Robinson is one of such players who broke the shackles and confronted the challenges posed over his racial identity. He is the first African American player of baseball who could make sacrifices in the beginning of his career due to his racial profiling. The television miniseries in which, Jackie’s voice over is done by Jimmy Fox, it is one of the landmark shows that highlight how racial segregation leads to several unwanted obstacles in building promising career. Directed by Ken Burns, the show precisely observes the life events of Jackie, who went through something which was orthodox by convention but still, it could affect his personality.
    At first, it is significant to note here that this overlooked gem about the first black baseball player to play in the major leagues might feel outdated, but it's nice to see on the screen the real Jackie Robinson, with his wife playing Ruby Dee (Vancheri, 2013). The Jackie Robinson Story is frank about racial problems, but by today's standards, it ultimately seems somewhat naive.
