For this assignment, you need to choose and analyze a children's poem.

  • You may write or select your home children's poem or usethis link to access a wide collection of children's poems provided by the Poetry Foundation (Do not pick a poem that is analyzed in Chapter 6).https://www.poetryfoundation.org/learn/children

  • In an essay of at least two pages, use the "Evaluating Poetry for Children" guidelines on page 175 of your book, discuss what makes the poem you chose an appropriate poem for children.Referring to specifics in the poem, consider it from the perspective of at least 6 of the 13 items . Do not merely describe the poem; consider the significance of the poem. This is an essay so you must you must write it as a narrative with complete sentences and paragraphs. Don't simply write responsesto the evaluationscriteria.



  1. Include the name of the poem. Capitalize all the other words except for a, an, the, and conjunctions and prepositions of four letters or fewer. If the name of the poem begins with the word "The" it needs to be capitalized.

  2. Include the full name of the poet and the date (if known) of when the poem was written.

  3. Attach a copy of the poem.

  4. Paper must include:

(b) analysis of the poem (minimum of two pages. It needs to be written in your own words. For example, the poem"The Children's Hour" by American poetHenryWadsworth Longfellow, first published in the September 1860 edition of The Atlantic Monthly would be cited as (Wadsworth, 1860)


(c) reference page that includes your textbook in APA format like this: Huck, C. (2014). Charlotte huck's children'sliterature: A brief guide. New York, NY: McGraw-Hill.
