Ageism – Definition:
Ageism is a sort of stereotyped prejudice or discrimination (Ducan,2017) conducted against people based on their age factors. This is being seen quite commonly these days in several organizations, except in those which do have full-fledged and implemented policies to curb the same. Ageism if often interpreted as an insidious behaviour and its characteristics are considered to be quite harmful to the targeted community. In this context the following part of the report will discuss about ageism and further will investigate the concept of ageism as expressed in literature and videos and attempts to provide reflection on the same(Buttigieg,2016).
Summary of Video-1
“A world without Ageism”, is the first of the three videos and it is made by Ashton Applewhite. The video is mainly focussed on to eliminate the fear of age as seen in most of the people in general. It is normally seen that with older age people will get variety of disease, poor health, loss of immunity as well as the failing of capabilities, however it is given as a message that ageing need not be experienced and considered as a negative trend. Infact it is indicated in the video the feeling and belief of the fact that ageing is a natural, lifelong and powerful process will make the older people to get compatible with dying process and they will not afraid with the fact that they are dying. The video attempts to enlighten the misconceptions and false considerations underlying the apprehensions of Ageism. The video presentation attempts to enlighten the people to have positive attitude and created them a vision towards the conditions how ageism can be faced with positive outlook.
A radical outlook of the speaker is expressed in the view that the ageism need not be seen as an inevitable and sorrowful experience of combinations of depression and dementia elements. Infact it is an opportunity available for every old person to get unite with all others of similar age.
