Proposed Title
The proposed title of the project is “Impact of wait time and shortage of nursing staff on quality care of patients”. This topic has been chosen because wait time and shortage of nursing staff are correlated issues, which led to the lowering of quality care of patients. In healthcare industry, quality care of the patients is priority.
Introduction
This section consists the information about the shortage of nursing staff and wait time. It gives the information of the previous research conducted on the topic. Shortage of nurses has become the global issue and world is moving in direction where need of large number of nurses needed to take care of rising elderly population. Therefore, this concept is need to be studied in details. The rising number of population and outbreak of new diseases resulted in the increase in number of patients in hospitals every day.
This rising in number results in increase in wait time. High wait time makes the person restless and increases their pain. This proposal will critically analyses the impact of shortage and wait time on quality of healthcare services. This research proposal will serve as the backbone to the final draft of the research project in future. Research project will be written based on this plan.
Statement of Problem
Quality care to the patients is primary goal of the healthcare industry. As noted by Alhassan et al. (2015), lack of proper funding and human resources resulted in many sub-issues, which are related to each other. Shortage of nursing staff and wait time are some of the main issues of healthcare industry, which resulted in poor quality care of the patients. These issues influence each other and created many other problems. As noted by Mousavi, Pourshariati, Rajabi and Letafatnejad (2017), long waited time in healthcare facilities reduced the satisfaction level of the patients and their families, which is a symbol of poor-quality service.
Research Aim
The proposed research project will aim to argue upon the extent of impact of shortage of nursing staff and wait time on patient. Although, shortage of nursing staff and wait time in healthcare industry seems like management issue, yet it has direct influence of patient’s health, which makes it healthcare issue.
Research Questions
· Does shortage of nursing staff have direct impact on quality care of patients?
· Is wait time influenced by shortage of nursing staff?
· What is the extent of influence of wait time on quality care of patients?
Methodology
The method used for the research is quantitative in nature. The survey-based research is conducted in the three types of healthcare facilities. These healthcare facilities are two government hospitals and one private hospital. Questionnaire will be distributed to patients or their family members in all the three care facilities. Patients of all the departments such as dental, immunisation, dieticians, paediatric and cardiology were taken into consideration for the research.
