The Epic of Gilgamesh was written in the ancient Mesopotamia, this area of the human civilization is also knows as the “cradle of civilization” as the human civilization in the form of cities started there. The first humans in Epic of Gilgamesh were made from animals. On the basis of this, I can say that the portrayal of civilization in the epic is contemporary for its time and its idea of civilization was portrayed in an ambiguous way. The epic showed that the origin of mankind and human nature started from the complete innocence. The main character in the epic was Enkidu, a free living innocent man who lives with wild animals. He gets in to a sexual encounter with Shamhat and the transition in his character started to happen. This was believed to be the time when civilization spoiled an innocent men started to move towards human civilization. I strongly believe that the character of Enkidu is similar to biblical characters Adams and eve. Adams and eve were tempted by all the sexuality and wisdom after eating from the tree of knowledge. After eating, they became aware about their nakedness and get attracted to each other. After the intercourse with Shamhat, nature disowned Enkidu. Enkidu get attached with...
