Folmer et al. (2008) randomly selected children from four different school grades and conducted an experiment in which y was the children’s rating of their own effort at a certain task. The children were randomly assigned to one of two levels for CONDITION. AGE was a variable of primary interest. There were 166 children in the dataset. The results are summarized in Table 11.28
(a) The multiple correlation coefficient is given as R = 0:34. Is there significant evidence that any of the variables are linearly related to y, using α = 0:05?
(b) Which, if any, of the individual effects appear to be significant?
(c) Sex was coded as 0 for boys, 1 for girls. How would you describe the effect of SEX? The effect of AGE?
