Part A- Assess the influence of trauma on the family and children
i) Analysing the short-term impact of the Trauma
The short-term influence and impact of trauma can finally manifest in numer
ous of ways and the response of person is dependent on myriad of parameters. The present age, development stage, cultural background, race, access to resources and current challenges within the family. Irrespective the family was part of any trauma or perhaps exposed to various experience of stress (American Psychological Association, 2019). With reference to the present case, Eloni the protagonist who is thirteen-year-old who has history of unspecified drug abuse because of interactions with step-father. Essentially, Eloni is exposed to many negative experiences in her life, she has witnessed many step-fathers who are more like using her for their needs and involved her in all dangerous activities. As an outcome of these exposures her behaviour was twisted that laid the foundation of suspension from school and in turn placed her in foster care. There are numerous ranges of individual reactions that can take place ranging from physical trauma, depression, aggression, stress such that the victim "acts out" and keep oneself aloof. Hence, if a person shows such symptoms, then it may be outcome of his or her past experience and trauma. There are other short-term consequences of trauma that may vary from physical to mental and emotional. For instance, a broken rib or injured leg is easy to spot from a physical abuse however, the fear, anxiety and frustration that comes from this experience can haunt a person forever.
ii) Long Term Impacts of the Trauma
There is various long-term consequence of physical traumatic experience. Physical experiences can shape the perception and behaviour thereby enhancing the risk for trauma that occurs repeatedly. Long-term impact takes into consideration the chronic health issues, impaired social as well as interpersonal relationship along with engagement of risky behaviour. In the case study, it was evident that physical trauma was perpetrated on Eloni by his stepfather and on Kolomalu by his siblings had pushed both of them at risk of witnessing trauma that had impact which more much more long-term in terms of emotional distress and mental breakdown. Unless there are proper interventions that can stop the physical assaults from taking place especially in the case of Kolomalu and Eloni. Both are at risk of tremendous psychological problems all across their lives and developing post-traumatic stress disorder. This trauma can build long-term negative impacts on nearly every facet of their lives that includes physical, cognitive, emotional and social interactions.
iii) Difference in Short Term Impacts from Long Term Impacts
Short term impact ranges from physical pain, bruises and wounds that are healed easily. However, the long-term outcomes from this physical trauma are perhaps graver such that it can manifest in both emotional and physical actions. This can further disrupt the normal way of functioning of the person over a long period of time. Furthermore, the short-term impact can lead to symptoms that immediate and acute in nature however, will disappear with time that urges the person to trace back the course to normal and move on with their life. However, on the other hand, long-terms impact is profound and certainly interfere with the ability to conduct a productivity of happy lives. For instance, referring back to the case study, long-term impact of Eloni's abuse will make it harder to overcome the experience. Similarly, for Anamalia might suffer from initial short-term traumatic impact of their family that is evicted and much longer impact if her children are removed from home for long period of time.
iv) How are they Similar
The response to both the trauma are perhaps very similar during initial period. Basically, trauma of any kind can result into distress and temporary altercation in behaviour and emotions. Either short term or long term both have the potence to discord and cause complete rupture in the family. Majority of people eventually recover from the physical assaults (short-term...
