Fog formation can take place when the temperature of a vapor or vapor– noncondensable mixture falls below the saturation temperature associated with the local partial pressure of vapor.
Consider the flow of air at atmospheric pressure and at a temperature of 95°C, with a relative humidity of 95%. The air–vapor mixture flows through a vertical tube that has a diameter of 4 cm, with a Reynolds number of 2.0 × 104. The tube inner wall temperature is 20°C. Estimate the distance from the wall where fog formation may take place.
