Five people own and operate the Victrola Coffee Shop in Seattle. Each person is married, and the number of years each has been married is given below.
Suppose a random sample of two of the owners is selected with replacement. Let D be a statistic defined to be the absolute value of the difference in the number of years each has been married. For example, if 2 and 7 were selected, the value of D would be 02 = 70 5 0250 = 5. Find the sampling distribution of D.
Consider the population consisting of the numbers 1 through 50.
a. Find the population mean m.
b. Use technology to select 50 random samples of size 10 from this population. Find the sample mean for each sample.
c. Construct a histogram of the 50 sample means. Where is the histogram centered?
