Find your Contentious Issue (CI):

It must be TOPICAL (current) and CONTENTIOUS (people are arguing about it, using facts, figures and statistics).
In this task you will identify a contentious issue (c) of topical interest and report on the key
arguments being used by the various stakeholders currently debating the issue. There are some
restrictions on your choice of topic, and you must have your topic approved by your tutor before you
begin
You will write a report for a non-specialist audience, on the Cl in which you will
Identify two media articles concerning the issue - one that has questionable use of numbers
statistics, and/or arguments intended to emphasise one side of the issue, and one that appears to
use evidence appropriately to give a balanced view
Identify the stakeholders (people, organisations) behind each of the reports Critique those two
reports using skills learned in class Explain why you think each article belongs to the category
you put it into
