Introduction:
There are numerous causes like increased population, economic growth and changed lifestyles contributing to increase in the overall energy being consumed from the domestic housing domain. The increase in energy being consumed from the housing front is not only creating demand for power and resulting in the increase in the prices, the indirect results of the same resulting in increase in the emissions to the atmosphere like GHG etc. This backdrop and urbanization is not unique for one particular region or country, the same trend is observed throughout the globe. Both the developed and developing countries are now facing the problem of excess energy consumption. In this connection, Green Building is being promoted. Green building is a particular building construction practice where in the cumulative effect of the novel materials employment, reduced energy usage, developing efficiency of the energy consumption in the devices as well as the usage o renewable energy resources contributing to the reduction in the overall energy usage in the buildings. Also there is considerable reduction in the GHG emissions subsequently. The following report evaluates the LEED ranking done for a construction project and discusses the salient features of the same (Azhar et al., 2011).
LEED and its significance:
Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and associated ranking is provided to evaluate the overall performance of the Green Building(council,2001). The evaluation will be done on the diverse ways and aspects in which the Green Building has employed the range of resources to reduce the energy consumption, means and methods employed for the reduction in the overall emissions etc will be evaluated to rank the Green building. The performance or the compliance of the particular project for LEED criteria will be evaluated in 4 levels, certified, silver, gold and platinum rankings. The organizations which have scored highest marks in this evaluation process will be ranked the best.
