Final Project For the final project, you will locate a recent (within the last few years) article in a newspaper or magazine that discusses one or more of the cognitive psychology concepts that we have covered over the course of the term. Summary
The study of cognitive psychology has had an impact on mental health practices in addition to adding to our understanding of how the human mind works. As indicated by Eysenck and Keane (2020), many mental health techniques before to the 1970s were more focused on Freudian, behavioral and humanistic approaches.
“During this time, the so-called cognitive revolution focused on deeper understanding how people retain information and how thought habits can lead to psychological suffering. New treatment options for depression, anxiety, phobias and other psychological disorders have been developed thanks to cognitive psychologists' study in this area.”
The human brain is a fantastic and extremely powerful tool. It enables us to learn, remember, see, hear, feel, comprehend and generate language. The human brain can also fail us at times. “Cognitive psychologists look at how people acquire, perceive, process and store data. This research might range from looking into how humans learn languages to figuring out how cognition and emotion interact.”
One of the most flexible and in-demand psychological specialty fields in the current days is brain science and cognitive psychology. The workings of the brain pique the interest of people from many spheres of life. Educators, curriculum designers, engineers, researchers, arbitrators, community safety officials, architects and software engineers are all interested in learning more about the brain's information processing capabilities.
Their study and the applications that resulted have become an essential component of how organizations, schools and corporations operate and flourish. “Cognitive psychologists work in clinical settings to address concerns relating to human mental processes, such as Alzheimer's disease, speech problems and memory loss and sensory or perception problems” (Ritter, Barrett, Santoro & Botvinick, 2017).
