Final Project : Consultancy Report (5,000 words) Section 1: Selection of Potential Candidate for Consultancy The first part of your Final Project is a project statement which describes your selected organisation and a project management improvement you might suggest for this organisation. The project management improvement you suggest will be considered the ‘consulting project’. An acceptable project will have the following features: • It uses a real organisation, with real and important issues to be solved or where improvement can be suggested. • It must be sufficiently complex to require the use of all of the theoretical elements described in the attached Readings, while it should be sufficiently limited in scope to be manageable • The information available on the organisation should be extensive enough to make the consulting report not only credible but also appreciably detailed. Examples of acceptable organisations: • A private company for which considerable information is available without confidentiality issues • A public company, trading on the public stock exchange network • A department of a country, state or city large enough to have its structure, mission and projects described explicitly on its Web site Examples of relevant consulting projects: • Implementation of a multi-project infrastructure • Introducing company-wide project risk management procedures • Redesign of the project information system • Design and implementation of a code of ethics for projects • Creation of a project-based innovation effort • Increase of overall business performance and measurement of results Section 2: Problem, Work Plan and Diagnosis This section consists of a work plan which describes the consultancy project you selected and its related issues, as well as the reasons why you selected the project. Also describe how you will organise you work and include a Gantt chart for the project’s schedule. Section 3: Proposal, Schedule, Budget and Executive Summary (500 words) For this section, develop a 500-word Executive Summary for the beginning of your Final Project. Then, develop the project proposal which consists of five parts representing some of the phases of the consulting life-cycle. Be sure to include: • Description of the client, project and contract agreement • Research on potential areas requiring improvement (diagnosis) • Research on the alternate solutions and selection • Plan for structuring the change project • Conclusion, including plans for continued consulting relationship and lessons learned NB: Assessment and Grading The Final Project accounts for 80% of your grade for this module. This 80% is further broken down as follows: • Part 1: Consultancy Report o Section 1: Selection of Potential Candidate for Consultancy (25% of the Final Project grade) o Section 2: Problem, Work Plan and Diagnosis (25% of Final Project grade) o Section 3: Proposal, Schedule, Budget and Executive Summary (40% of Final Project grade) o Writing and Presentation Style (10% of Final Project grade)
