PowerPoint Presentation A guide to HBS108 At1 T2 2022 Learning Outcomes What will we have learned having completed At1 – what are the skillsets? • ULO1: Identify and critique the role of health research, the formal research process, and have an introductory knowledge of qualitative, quantitative and mixed methodologies. • ULO2: Identify, access and evaluate online resources from high quality health information and data sources. • ULO3: Synthesise and critically evaluate online health information to demonstrate knowledge of peer-reviewed health literature. Time management • Remember, this is an 800-word assignment – we’ve read emails that are longer (!) – so it pays to get onto this assignment straight away. • (+/- 10%) – but avoid under-writing... it’s not the way to get good grades • Due: 8:00pm AEST Thursday 11 August 2022 (Week 5) • Try to avoid asking for extensions – it only pushes back the inevitable and digs a bigger hole. It means you won’t get your feedback when everyone else does and potentially sabotages your work on your next assignment as a result. Use the Deakin Assessment planner to help you stay on top of your workload. Having several assignments due at the same time is not grounds for an extension – and having to say ‘no’ is not great for anyone…. just sayin’ (!) Ultimately… Searching for and finding the latest relevant information increases your worth in the workplace. Not knowing your way around searching skills only leads to frustration – so try and adopt a perspective of being curious, detective-style (for example) – to make the whole process more satisfying : ) Writing a question for the next census 1. Write a householder question for the next census* – and clearly justify why the information would be a) useful to know (i.e. what makes the information relevant and helpful) and b) what the practical implications of knowing the information would be (i.e. how might the knowledge translate into relevant policies or practice). (5 marks) • *For example, this might relate to a social determinant of health or even health behaviour. This could be similar to an existing question, or a completely new question. For example, it might relate to a social determinant of health or even health behaviour. This is about generating useful data and knowing what you will do with the information once you have it. It’s helpful to take a look at the current questions that were asked in 2021 for ideas and see if you can come up with one that hasn’t been asked yet – that’s a bit more challenging, and adds opportunities to be original and creative : ) Describing your search strategy 2. Identify 3 academic, peer-reviewed articles relating to one topic you consider significant regarding men’s health. Include a combination of quantitative and qualitative articles (mixed methods could also be included). Your articles should examine the same/similar topic from different research perspectives. Articles should have been published within the past 10 years – and they can be from international journals. • Describe your search strategy (including key terms and databases in such a way that others using the same approach would typically identify the same papers). What did you keep in? (inclusion criteria) What did you leave out? (exclusion criteria) (2.5marks) We discuss the detail of search strategies in Topic 3 – but you could take a look at any rigorous literature or systematic review and see the search strategy the authors have described in the Methods section as a useful guide to completing this section. The good examples don’t just include key terms, for example – they also include the Boolean Operators they used to link each search term. The idea of search strategies is to leave a trail that others might follow and find similar articles. The difference between qualitative and quantitative articles (with a mixed- methods option) 3. Demonstrating your knowledge of the key concepts we have been covering, explain at least four distinct key reasons (for each approach) which indicate that your selected studies are quantitative, qualitative, or mixed- methods in nature. In other words, claims made about study type should be accurate and logical, supported by clear examples from the chosen articles, and make correct reference to methodological concepts covered in the unit. Your answer should show an understanding of the HBS108 unit content and draw on specifics from each of your articles. (Note: Simply mentioning that the study states that it is a quantitative study will not be awarded any marks). (5 marks) • To receive any marks for this question you must paste the abstracts of the articles into your assignment as an appendix at the end of your assignment – and separately - upload PDFs of the full articles as separate files. Note that the abstract is NOT included in the word count for this assignment neither is its effect on your TurnItIn score. Although we will drill-down into the detail of qualitative and quantitative research designs, note that there are general topic guides on these already provided in Topic 1 (week 1) – so you could still start this portion of your assignment without having to wait : ) Identifying key messages and comparing data 4. Identify and state the key messages about men’s health from your selected journal articles. Compare data from a government data-reporting website (e.g. Australian Bureau of Statistics/ Australian Institute of Health and Welfare) and discuss whether the key messages from your journal articles are backed up or contradicted by findings reported in the government websites. (5 marks) Thankfully, government websites such as the Australian Bureau of Statistics are easy to search – try and locate the most recent data for the most effective comparison. Document management 5. Presentation – correct grammar, referencing, spelling, inclusion of title page with student name and number and word count. At least 5 references should be included. (2.5 marks) Sub-heads and citations are included in the word count – however, references are not. Don’t use the cut-and-paste method to write your paper – the university sees it as plagiarism – and your marker can see it immediately. This type of copying attracts heavy penalties – don’t do it. We are able to see exactly where you have copied – so there are no short-cuts (!). The rubric matches the guidelines – but it is a brief version... be sure to refer to the full guidelines • There is a one-page marking guide provided as a rubric in the At1 folder – nice and simple – but be sure to follow the full guidelines when preparing your assignment. • The one provided here is a sample only... the wording has been subsequently updated, so refer to the full provided file for reference. Questions? Assignment 1 Weekly Journal/Media Mapping & Discourse Analysis HBS108 Assignment 1: (800 words +/- 10%) (20%) Criteria Mark 1. Title: Men healthcare servic
es in Australia
Introduction
The emphasis of this statistical study will be to study the relevance of attaining different health care services by men in Australia to get their health status updated. The health status of a person is important and men must know their health status by getting a regular checkup from an insured health service agency in Australia. Men in all age groups should have the awareness to opt for a health care service check-up camp that offers a regular update on their health by performing a routine checkup. In this study, the participants were informed on the phone to get the latest update on their men’s health by arranging a health check-up facility camp (Vincent et al., 2018).
The results indicate that the young men were more negligent in attaining a regular health check in comparison to the old male people. Therefore spreading awareness among men in Australia to get regular health checkups is important. Men in Australia prefer to get a checkup from the doctor but there is a significance of the health care service camps organized in different regions in Australia. The main behavior studied was the negligence and avoidance among the youth men in Australia to visit a health service campaign in their region for getting a regular health checkup (Vincent et al., 2018).
Hodyl et. al, (2018) studies reported that the major reasons for a declining behavior to visit a health service center were the browsing and the use of the internet online for consulting a doctor and a lack of desire to communicate their problems to the healthcare persons in health-related programs (Hodyl et al., 2020).
The statistical study was conducted among a group of men in Australia in the age group ranging from 25 years to 69 years. The youth generation avoided visiting the healthcare service and some of the reasons (key issues) were the responsibility of taking care of their family members, a perception that they are healthy and are not suffering from health-related issues and if there is a minor health issue, it will be alright with time (Vincent et al., 2018). The question that can be asked is “Whether getting a health check-up from a health service awareness program is significant or...
